What is the red hot chilli peppers song about?

What is the song "Under the Bridge" about specifically (its by the RHCP)? Also what is the hidden meanings in Give it Away? This is for my music class......thanks!

What is the red hot chilli peppers song about?
Under The Bridge is an introspective reflection on Anthony Kiedis' drug addiction.





The title comes from the song lyric, Under the bridge downtown/Is where I drew some blood, reportedly referring to an experience in which Kiedis used drugs under a bridge with a member of a Mexican gang, although Kiedis himself refuses to reveal the exact location.





The song almost did not make the album, because the lyrics and nature of the song made Kiedis reluctant to show it to producer Rick Rubin and also to record it.

The interpretations of the lyrics for Give It Away have been widely different. The line What I've got you've got to get it put it in you is believed by some to be a reference to taking drugs, while lines such as Come and drink it up from my fertility could be construed as sexual metaphors.

Reply:All of their songs are about the same old tired subject- California. And that song is also about Anthony Keidis feeling down and out in the city of angels- Los Angeles. I think it was about him feeling strung out and contemplating suicide.
Reply:Under the Bridge: Originally a poem Anthony wrote which Rick Rubin stumbled upon when he was looking them over one day. Anthony was kind of hesitant of showing it to the other members but he sang it and instead of laughing and making fun of it Flea and John went to their instruments and started playing. When they go to the "Under the bridge downtown" part they had nothing. So John called his mom up and she brought her Church choir to sing that part.











Give it Away: agreethe song is about love. its a great song, especialy when people are like "oh that song is so dirty" when its not at all! anthony said he was inspired when he was with his girlfriend, and she was wearing her favorite leather jacket and it was cold outside, and she gave it to him, and he couldn't believe it, but she said no please take it ill be happier if you takeit. hence "give it away" you know "unrepressed by material excess" its fantastic! just about love and giving and of embracing all, and just love of everything, sexual love, love of family, love of friends love of a lover
