How to listend to the lyrics of a song?

Hi,

I would like to know how I can improve myself in listening more to the lyrics and the meanings of the songs rather than just listening to the melody.

I have taken a "bad" habit of just listening to the melody of any kind of music I listened to and never really pay attention to the lyrics/meanings behind the music itself. If I concentrate myself real hard, I can get the music as anyone can, but then it doesn't just relax/energize me as music would, but just makes me think. I would like to do both.

Anyone have any ideas on how I can improve this about myself?

Thank You

Regards,

Andrew

Bring up the lyrics on the computer screen while you listen to the song and just follow them through. Don't think about thinking about them - it should come quite easily.
Reply:I was like that... i listened to songs through ear/head phones and concentrated on it. Then i realised what the songs were about. It all started with the Eminem songs. =]
Reply:erm if you get the lyrics on the screen and read them then learn them the next time you listen to that song you will find yourself listening to the lyrics cos you can sing them.

Also by reading the lyrics you can listen to what the singer is saying
Reply:look up the lyrics then u can read them while listening to the beat

unless you know the lyrics by heart it hard to do both =D
Reply:As a songwriter, I think I know what you mean and let me tell you, it's not your fault if you are not getting into the lyrics. Some songs are only Melodically good and there are other songs you probably like the lyrics to but only if the song's melody was better or the style of music that you like, but that rarely happens, most of the time we only listen to songs with catchy melodies ( tunes ), and if we find a song that we like that has a nice melody and nice meaning, specially if it's something we can relate to or something we are going through at the time, that's when we really get into a song, I call that a ''Package Deal" :)

PS, you can't make yourself like something or get into something, if that something is not interesting.
