OK
Reply:for one, i DO NOT think it was about Satanism.

i left the link to a very interesting article if you are interested in further reading...........
Reply:Hmmmm, from my own interpretation of the song, which I love btw is that Hotel California really is just referring to California and everything it has to offer or not, depending on who or where you are I suppose. Anyway, the ending about you can check out but you can never leave makes me think of something similar to leaving your heart in San Francisco....you can move away, you can leave but you can never really forget it or feel comfortable anywhere else. It's all in the metaphors! :)
Reply:Religious nuts think it's about the church of Satan. As Don Henley once told about it in an interview, it was a song about the excesses of the California lifestyle in the 1970's. There was a LOT of alcohol and drug abuse, especially by and around musicians at the time.
Reply:its the ghost from his past that he cant let go
Reply:he's chasing the dragon...DRUGS buddy, DRUGS
Reply:I always heard it was about Hell. Anyway I found a link that talks about the Hotel California in Todos Santos, interesting I am not sure if it is true or not. Good luck in your quest to find the true meaning of the song.
