System of a down song meanings?

I got lucky enough to choose an extra credit assignment for my religion class, and i chose to research the meaning behind the lyrics of Chop Suey, as they quote Jesus dying on the cross, with "father, why have you forsaken me?" and "father into your hands i comment my spirits." Does anyone know why this song was written? i have heard it is anti-religious, and i dont really care, but i would like to know.

I'm not really sure about the origin of this song, but I've found this Web site helpful. Check this out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chop_Suey%2...
Reply:They are quite good with their writing. If you have no Biblical upbringing it could be challenging. I entirely endorse their anti-Bush, anti-war stance. Too many bands are unable to write so intelligently about both subjects. The juxtaposition is evident as they vary time signatures, cadence, and tempo.

Being Armenian, they are very world wary. The Jesus quote was made while on the cross when Jesus was being crucified. The son of God, Jesus, was sacrificing his life so that all Gentiles (non-Jews), could be forgiven and enter heaven. The quote is "I commit my spirit", meaning his soul and life. The desperation reveals Jesus a a human, enduring what had to be done, yet acknowledging the pain and despair.

Get a Bible. The 1st 5 Chapters of the New Testament should answer all this.

Great Band though.....!
Reply:WOW !!!! There are lyrics to System Of A Down songs ?!?!!?

I learned something new today !!!!
Reply:I'm very familiar with that song. I am not religious but didn't Jesus know that he would be betrayed and that he would be sentenced to death? And didn't he then ask why? If so, then I think the song makes a lot of sense.
Reply:Play the songs backwards and they are actually religious. Forward they are anti-religious.
