Elton John song's meanings?

Can you give me names of his songs, meanings, and or who they were written for?

Elton John song's meanings?
Philadelphia Freedom was written for his friend Billie Jean King the tennis player. She played on a team called The Philadelphia Freedoms. I heard that this was the first time he tried intentionally to write a hit song.

IMHO, the writing team of Elton John and Bernie Taupin is one of the wonders of the world. Almost like one person living in two bodies.

Do you know this site? It's pretty cool, but hardly official.

Reply:Candle in the Wind (Original) - written about Marilyn Monroe
Reply:all songs= "I am a pompous overstuffed homosexual"
Reply:His song "Empty Garden" was written in tribute to his good friend John Lennon after he was murdered.
Reply:Daniel:

The lyrics were written by Bernie Taupin, Elton's writing partner. When Elton wrote the music for it, he chopped off the last verse because he thought the song was already too long. This completely changed the meaning of the song, as the deleted verse explained that "Daniel" was a Vietnam Vet who returned home after the war, lost his eyesight, and decided to leave America and go to Spain. With the last verse chopped off, it became a fairly vague story of 2 brothers who part ways.
