Give me a song lyric you like, and analyze it...what does it mean to you? :]?

That is something amazing about life in genral, one thing can take ten different meanings depending who you talk to. There is a stutterfly lyric that i really like... He says "Severed fragments of my being

Pieced together, give life meaning.

Fragile quilts of faded memories" I know, not the most genius lyric in the world but it means alot to me because when you peice little small parts of life together that is what makes it important...and memories are a big part of my life... so the quilt of faded memories part just speaks to me. Give me a lyric (or lyrics) you like and tell me what it/they mean to you :]

Give me a song lyric you like, and analyze it...what does it mean to you? :]?

One last phone call from you, it wouldn't hurt much,

I'd just like to hear your voice and pretend to touch,

Any inch of you that hasn't said it all or read it all

Or sung my life away

Intense :P we've all felt lonely, or felt like someone dumped you on your *** and never called, or felt like no one cared :-]

"I want to face the fear, and not feel scared"

Its self explanitory..but its very deep but understandable at the same time

but it means different things to every person

'Been singin' for my rent and singin' for my supper

I'm above the below and below the upper

I'm stuck in the middle where money gets tight

But I guess I'm doin' alright'

That so describes my life - especially the 'stuck in the middle where money gets tight' part. But overall , I'm doing alright!
Reply:hmm..i like the Fray's How to Save A Life lyrics. the one where it says "i lost a friend along the bitterness" means to me like he was lost in his own..well bitterness that they lost each other along the way. i like it because its pretty simple and it sorta happened to me before so yay i can relate to the lyrics.

Some will lose their dreams for small desires

And lose the race to rats

Get caught in ticking traps

And start to dream of somewhere to relax their restless flight.

--------------To me, this means that some people trade their dreams for material things, and soon they find that time (ticking traps) has gone on and they are trapped in this prison and they can only dream of breaking away because they lack the courage to do anything but what they have always done. I hear this song and hope that I never become one of those people.

What is a dual-quad and what are three deuces?

Hi, I've been listening to Beach Boys music and have a few questions. In 4-0-9, the phrase, "4-speed, dual-quad, positraction 409" crops up and in Little GTO you have, "three deuces and a four-speed and a 389". I'm guessing that both refer to carbs of some type, but what are the meanings of the words, dual, quad, three and deuces according to their usage in the songs?

What is a dual-quad and what are three deuces?
As I recall, dual quads is two four-barrel carburetors, and three deuces is three two barrels.
Reply:Four Barrel carburators are the quads. Dual quads meant you had two them. Positraction is a transmission. Four speed was a transmission.

I had a GTo but can't remember the rest of the phrases.
Reply:In 4-0-9 the phrase 4 speed means the transmission, dual-quad means 2 four barrel carbs and positraction means the rear end (differential). And I'm sure you know what "409" means. It was an engine in those days. 3 deuces means 3- 2 barrel carbs. The 389 was also an engine size.
Reply:dual quads is 2 ,4 barrel carbs, and 3 deuces are 3 ,2 barrel carbs
Reply:Others are correct, dual quad refers to two four barrel carburetors and three deuces means three two barrel carburetors. However, positraction is with regards to the rear axle being a limited slip differential.
Reply:The 409 was a medium duty truck engine that was modified by GM to become a "performance engine "

. It had a large cubic inch displacement at 409 cubic inches. Compared to a modern V8 it was pretty low tech, and didn't have a very efficient design, but in th early sixties, it was boss.

The "four speed " was a four speed manual transmission, with a floor mounted shifter. This set up was usually mated with a high performance Sheiffer heavy duty racing clutch, with a really hard to push in clutch pedal. This allowed for "bang shifting " without blowing up the clutch assembly.

The dual quad carb set up would be a set of two oppossed ( set up across from each other on a special aluminimum intake manifold ) that used Holley 850 cfm carbs with dual pumper fuel pumps to get as much fuel load into the carbs as possible. Really hard to set up and balance properly.

The "positraction rear end ' was a expensive aded option on the GTO. It locks the two rear axels, so that the maximum "straight ahead traction " could be put to the rear wheels. Good design, but a pain in the rear end in the rain, if you forgot and floored the car......it would do a 180 loop and you would get laughed at by your buddies.....

The " three dueces and a 389 " reffers to the slightly less potent GTO 389 cubic inch model. The 3 carbs were the Stromberg model 97's , which had been a standard "hot rodder " carb , since the late 1940's. Again hard to set up and keep them balanced, due to the complicated linkages and floats.

These were the days of people actually " building their own cars" by starting with a big displacement V eight and "hot rodding it " by shaving the heads, replacing factory cam shaft and pistons, multiple carbs, and making their car lighter by removing as much weight as they could get away with. Lowered and chopped bodies, and custom paint jobs, with flames.

Saturday nights at the drags and crusing the main street, afterwards.

I was there.

Are there any slang meanings for "Die Brut" in german?

It is in the lyrics of a dance-music (EBM) song.

Are there any slang meanings for "Die Brut" in german?
In German Brut has two very different meanings:

Brut : brood, spawn

Brut: mob; lot
Reply:it also could mean 'The Spawn'!
Reply:It hard to tell because i don't know the lyrics but there is actually no slang meaning to that word: it simply means "offspring" or "brood"
Reply:To die, is zu sterben in German. The Brut I am not sure I ever heard a word in that context, but "Die Brut, would come out as:"Stirb Du Gauner, or Stirb Dreckscbwein, Stirb Du Sau....
Reply:i think it means bread/bread roll so i doubt its slang.

i am not sure whether this helps

good luck

Do u know any nursery ryhmes with hidden meanings???

apart from ring around the rosy and sing a song of six pence. i already know about those 2.

Do u know any nursery ryhmes with hidden meanings???
Three Blind Mice: There is an urban legend that this musical round was written earlier and refers to Queen Mary I of England executing three Protestant bishops. The earliest lyrics don't talk about directly killing the three blind mice and are dated after Queen Mary died, however, "she scrapte her tripe licke thou the knife" implies they were prepared and consumed if not a reference to tasting the blood of a slain adversary.

London Bridge Is Falling Down: It relates to the many difficulties experienced in bridging the River Thames : London's earlier bridges did indeed "wash away" before a bridge built of "stone so strong" was constructed.

Humpty Dumpty: Described Humpty Dumpty as a siege tower, used by the Cavaliers (King's Men) during the English civil war. Unfortunately, as it was poorly designed, the tower often toppled over when it was full of men and broke. Hence, "All the King's horses and all the King's men, couldn't put Humpty together again."
Reply:london bridges is about the london brideg litterally falling down and killing people i think.

alouette is about ripping off a bird's head.

and clementine is about a girl who drowns and how she's "pushin' up daisies now"...

it's way hilarious if you look up the lyrics
Reply:that one were a rocking baby bed falls off of a cliff or something!! wtf that one is screwd up!
Reply:"Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, How I wonder where You are" Is, in reality a Budget Increase Request from NASA !
Reply:The "itsy bitsy spider" is about sex. Asian men ofcourse, itsy bitsy doesn't fit anyone else.
Reply:Apparently 'Pop goes the weasel" is a nursery rhyme that tells how they used to mix rice and treacle for the little weasels to eat, and when they had gorged themselves, the rice would swell and literally make their bellies 'pop' ! Sounds cruel doesn't it?

Half a pound of tuppenny rice, half a pound of treacle,

Mix it up and make it nice,

POP goes the weasel !!

Aankhon mein talaash hai

Tum jo saath ho, ik subaah aayegi

Roshni jo laayegi ho..

Ab ki jo raat ho

One love, har tan kahe

One love, mil kar rahe

One love, ik aasmaan haan ik jahaan

Does anyone know any web sites to find what a band's albums mean?

I try finding song meanings, but not really expert answers, just people leaving comments about liking or disliking a song.

Does anyone know any web sites to find what a band's albums mean?
Dude, that's one of the purposes of Yahoo! Answers!. ;P Now give us a song to dissect. Also remember, besides marketing (good answer pofdog!) all songs are to be interpruted by the 'listener' not the 'songwriter'. I've written over 5000 songpoems and yes, I could tell you what I was thinking on about 100 of them! LOL! The other 4900 I leave up to the listener because when I'm writing I go into 'writing mode' which is like a dreamstate. The words just come with no forethought and form the song. So being the writer sometimes leaves me as clueless and the listener, only luckily my listeners seem to 'get it' when they listen. Even when I don't. So one song could mean 50 different things to 50 different people and that's what good songwriting is, to an extent. ;P
Reply:Why do you think that a bands song has to have some interpersonal meaning? Most times the albums just have what the producers think is a good name that will sell it. AGAIN, why do you spend your time trying to figure out what they mean? You will never find out most because there is NO MEANING besides the marketing value.
Reply:This web site seems to be what you're looking for. People offer opinions on what they think the song is about and whether they like it or not.

http://www.songmeanings.net/
Reply:Normally I look for an interview with the band on YouTube. Often networks like Fuse will interview a band and that almost always seems to be a question if they have a new album out.

Meanings of each of these Cold War Kids songs...?
hang me out to dry : its basically about the a girl leading him on.

fell asleep with stains- he let himself be vulnerable and because of it got hurt..and its such a pain. he also ignored the problems "stains" in the relationship

careless in our summer clothes -i think when you fall in love your so happy that you forget to be careful and all you focus on is how great you feel.

pearly like the whites- white reflects innocence, his innocence. a girl messing with his mind.

hot water bleeding our colors - their true feelings about each other are coming out.

hang me out to dry, you wrung me out too many times - hes begging her to just let him go already and end the relationship - which has caused him plenty of grief
Reply:The story of what happen to the composer of the song.

Many people say Led Zeppelin's song "Stairway to Heaven" is the greatest rock song, do you agree or disagree?

Why do you agree/disagree? If you disagree what do you think is the greatest rock song of all times? Here are the lyrics for Stairway to Heaven for those who do not know it:

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold

And she's buying a stairway to heaven

And when she gets there she knows if the stores are closed

With a word she can get what she came for

Woe oh oh oh oh oh

And she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure

And you know sometimes words have two meanings

In the tree by the brook there's a songbird who sings

Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven

Woe oh oh oh oh oh

And she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a feeling I get when I look to the west

And my spirit is crying for leaving

In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees

And the voices of those who stand looking

Woe oh oh oh oh oh

And she's buying a stairway to heaven

And it's whispered that soon, if we all call the tune

Then the piper will lead us to reason

And a new day will dawn for those who stand long

And the forest will echo with laughter

And it makes me wonder

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow

Don't be alarmed now

It's just a spring clean for the May Queen

Yes there are two paths you can go by

but in the long run

There's still time to change the road you're on

Your head is humming and it won't go because you don't know

The piper's calling you to join him

Dear lady can't you hear the wind blow and did you know

Your stairway lies on the whispering wind

And as we wind on down the road

Our shadows taller than our souls

There walks a lady we all know

Who shines white light and wants to show

How everything still turns to gold

And if you listen very hard

The tune will come to you at last

When all are one and one is all

To be a rock and not to roll

Woe oh oh oh oh oh

And she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold

And she's buying a stairway to heaven

And when she gets there she knows if the stores are closed

With a word she can get what she came for

And she's buying a stairway to heaven, uh uh uh.

Many people say Led Zeppelin's song "Stairway to Heaven" is the greatest rock song, do you agree or disagree?
If I had to pick just one, I'd pick Knights in White Satin by The Moody Blues
Reply:It's probably in the top 20 or so.

How about these?

Nothing Else Matters - Metallica

Living on a Prayer - Bon Jovi

Welcome to the Jungle - Guns n' Roses

Sweet Child o' Mine - Guns n' Roses

We Are the Champions - Queen

Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen

My mind has drawn a blank for others.... but there are quite a few more.
Reply:When you print the lyrics, it looks like the lamest song ever. Actually, if you asked a large sampling of people who have been alive long enough to have a sense of rock'n'roll history, I believe the answer would be (actually, it's obvious what the answer would be- drum roll please...) "Satisfaction", by the Rolling Stones.
Reply:it's a great song but after you hear it a millon and one times you get tired of it.ican't pick a favorite song, somedays i'm into rock others punk then the blues
Reply:Do I agree???......

My answer is NO!!!! =)
Reply:Hi Led Zep Babe.

Led Zeppelin is definitely one of the greatest rock bands. Stairway to Heaven is one of my favorite songs. I actually had a ticket to see them in the 70's in Philadelphia, but the concert was cancelled and never rescheduled. ( I think it's when John Bonum died ) Jimmy Page is definitely one of the best guitar players of all time.
Reply:I disagree, because it always depends on what type of rock you put this song in. Today there are many sub-genre's of rock, so nothing today is just called a rock song anymore.
Reply:what?

its good but there are so many to choose from..........hundreds of artists.....allman bros..lynyrd skynrd...the doobie brothers....eric clapton...neil young....janis joplin.......hundreds more
Reply:It's up there (no pun intended). There are others that need to be considered as well. For example...

Money - Pink Floyd

Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd

Breathe - Pink Floyd

Jump - Van Halen

Tom Sawyer - Rush

Back in Black - AC/DC

Black Hole Sun - Soundgarden

Dirt - Alice in Chains

Iron Man - Ozzy Ozbourne

"No Stairway to Heaven??? Denied!"

R o c k O n ! ! !
Reply:It's a great song, but not even close to greatest.
Reply:I heartily disagree. There is no "greatest" rock song, many of them are "great".
Reply:disagree

The song " save a horse ride a cowboy "?

ok who has listened to the song " save a horse and ride a cowboy " and can tell me if u think it has something gay meanings

The song " save a horse ride a cowboy "?
"Broke Back Mtn" aint in the south no cowboy is going to make love in the bed of a truck with a man!!!!! It just sould'nt be int the same sentence!!!
Reply:If it's not gay, why don't they say :

"Save a horse, ride a cowgirl" ?

(Truth is, of course, as any old cow-hand will tell ya, out on the range there weren't any cow-girls, so all we poor ole cow-hands had to ride back in the bunk-house was cowboys.)
Reply:No, the Big %26amp; Rich song is more heterosexual. They are speaking about men and women, not men and men.
Reply:Can't stand it. Turn station whenever it comes on.
Reply:Nope , the band Big and Rich recorded it, And it is referring to themselves as the cowboys, tellin the girls hey save a horse ride us...
Reply:Well, I walk into the room

Passing out hundred dollar bills

And it kills and it thrills like the horns on my Silverado grill

And I buy the bar a double round of crown

And everybody's getting down

An' this town ain't never gonna be the same.

(Chorus:)

Cause I saddle up my horse

and I ride into the city

I make a lot of noise

Cause the girls

They are so pretty

Riding up and down Broadway

on my old stud Leroy

And the girls say

Save a horse, ride a cowboy.

Everybody says

Save a horse, Ride a cowboy

Well I don't give a dang about nothing

I'm singing and Bling- Blanging

While the girls are drinking

Long necks down!

And I wouldn't trade ol' Leroy

or my Chevrolet for your Escalade

Or your freak parade

I'm the only John Wayne left in this town

And I saddle up my horse

and I ride into the city

I make a lot of noise

Cause the girls

They are so pretty

Riding up and down Broadway

on my old stud Leroy

And the girls say

Save a horse, ride a cowboy.

Everybody says

Save a horse, Ride a cowboy

(Spoken:)

I'm a thourough-bred

that's what she said

in the back of my truck bed

As I was gettin' buzzed on suds

Out on some back country road.

We where flying high

Fining, whine, having ourselves a big and rich time

And I was going, just about as far as she'd let me go.

But her evaluation

of my cowboy reputation

Had me begging for slavation

all night long

So I took her out giggin frogs

Introduced her to my old bird dog

And sang her every Wilie Nelson song I could think of

And we made love

And I saddled up my horse

and I ride into the city

I make a lot of noise

Cause the girls

They are so pretty

Riding up and down Broadway

on my old stud Leroy

And the girls say

Save a horse, ride a cowboy.

Everybody says

Save a horse, Ride a cowboy

What? What?

Save A Horse Ride A Cowboy

Everybody says

Save a Horse Ride a cowboy.

If you notice is mentions girls (females) and LeRoy is the name of the horse. I don't think it has anything to do with anything gay.
Reply:Most country artist, especially men don't openly sing about gay love. I think the song is strictly about heterosexual sex
Reply:I think people read to much into everything.
Reply:I LOVE IT!!! i give my husband a lapdance everytime!!!!! its a great REDNECK song and has a great beat!!!

I think it means that girls should 'ride' their guys.

no gay meaning, just some 'cowboy riding'!!!!!!!!!
Reply:It doesn't have gay meaning......it could if you read into that much though.....
Reply:i hate that song .
Reply:they're talking about all the pretty girls and the cowboy there's nothing in the lyrics that references gays
Reply:OK....you're a little dense if you think it's gay.

It's a fun song...that happens to be telling WOMEN to "save a horse, ride a cowBOY"!

Sheesh!
Reply:The entire song is about a guy trying then succeeding to get into a girls pants. Then asking other girls if they want a go. I don't think it's about anything gay. Though perhaps he is overcompensating, you never know.
Reply:I believe it is not saying something gay. Big and Rich are both straight and if you have seen the video or listened to the lyrics you will know it is about men with women.
Reply:I've heard the song, and any song can have "gay meanings" if that's what you read into it. I just took it as overtly sexual.
Reply:i love this song so much its so good! no it doesnt have any gay meanings!

HEY, I NEED HELP! Does someone know a good song foe a FEMALE (me) to sing while my friend plays her [acoustic]

I'm a female. there's a talent show coming up soon at my school and I want to sing a good song, that my friend can play chords, [or tabs] to on her guitar while I sing.

music I'd be willing to sing:

I like dark, music with really deep meanings, but when sung, don't sound like dark songs.

I like indie as well, like Death Can for Cutie is a good band, I also like Darling Violetta...

I'm open to songs that aren't dark, I also like Nellie McKay, and like the Ditty Bops....

although I'm IN LOVE with screamo, and metal...I'm NOT going to be screaming my head off, simply becasue it's a physical impossibility for myself.

music I will in no way ever EVER EVER sing in public (or by myself for that matter):

Anything by that ridiculuos "actress and singer" Hannah Montana,

Hilary Duff,

no country, pop, or rap either...I want REAL, GOOD

music.

got it?....Good.

HEY, I NEED HELP! Does someone know a good song foe a FEMALE (me) to sing while my friend plays her [acoustic]
Cold Cold Heart by Hank Williams
Reply:okay, well, i would say taylor swift.

if you look into her unpopular music, its not too country.

but you could always use.. damein rice, or something like that.

there's also unconditional by the bravery.

actually, i don't know what it sounds like,

but in my itunes it's under indie.

good luck! :]
Reply:I hope it does not sound stupid but what about the song More Than Words but the Band Extreme? That is a great acoustic song and sound good in an auditorium. What about the song Tomorrow Wendy or Joey by Concrete Blonde?
Reply:a good death cab song is i will follow you into the dark

jack johnson has some fun songs to perform ---banana pancakes

Kt Tunstall

tegan and sara

some beatles maybe

good luck choosing a song :)
Reply:I have a friend who sings an accoustic version of "Take Me Away" by Lifehouse. The lead singer of Lifehouse makes the song sound too whiney but with a female voice the song sounds surprisingly good.
Reply:Let me answer your question with another question. Why is this in Country? If you don't like country why is it under here? THink about that. Got it?.....Good.
Reply:You're Looking at Country by Loretta Lynn
Reply:if you want the song to be metal or something like that why is it in the country section?

Does anybody know where I can find the lyrics and meanings for American Pie and Blinded By the Light?

These are two amazing songs about which I know very little but would like to know it all. I would also like to get the lyrics for Louie Louie and the lyrics and meaning for "The Weight" and "Creeque Alley". I greatly appreciate any help.

Does anybody know where I can find the lyrics and meanings for American Pie and Blinded By the Light?
Don McLean - American Pie

A long, long time ago...

I can still remember

How that music used to make me smile.

And I knew if I had my chance

That I could make those people dance

And, maybe, they’d be happy for a while.

But february made me shiver

With every paper I’d deliver.

Bad news on the doorstep;

I couldn’t take one more step.

I can’t remember if I cried

When I read about his widowed bride,

But something touched me deep inside

The day the music died.

So bye-bye, miss american pie.

Drove my chevy to the levee,

But the levee was dry.

And them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye

Singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.

"this’ll be the day that I die."

Did you write the book of love,

And do you have faith in God above,

If the Bible tells you so?

Do you believe in rock ’n roll,

Can music save your mortal soul,

And can you teach me how to dance real slow?

Well, I know that you’re in love with him

`cause I saw you dancin’ in the gym.

You both kicked off your shoes.

Man, I dig those rhythm and blues.

I was a lonely teenage broncin’ buck

With a pink carnation and a pickup truck,

But I knew I was out of luck

The day the music died.

I started singin’,

"bye-bye, miss american pie."

Drove my chevy to the levee,

But the levee was dry.

Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye

And singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.

"this’ll be the day that I die."

Now for ten years we’ve been on our own

And moss grows fat on a rollin’ stone,

But that’s not how it used to be.

When the jester sang for the king and queen,

In a coat he borrowed from james dean

And a voice that came from you and me,

Oh, and while the king was looking down,

The jester stole his thorny crown.

The courtroom was adjourned;

No verdict was returned.

And while lennon read a book of marx,

The quartet practiced in the park,

And we sang dirges in the dark

The day the music died.

We were singing,

"bye-bye, miss american pie."

Drove my chevy to the levee,

But the levee was dry.

Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye

And singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.

"this’ll be the day that I die."

Helter skelter in a summer swelter.

The birds flew off with a fallout shelter,

Eight miles high and falling fast.

It landed foul on the grass.

The players tried for a forward pass,

With the jester on the sidelines in a cast.

Now the half-time air was sweet perfume

While the sergeants played a marching tune.

We all got up to dance,

Oh, but we never got the chance!

`cause the players tried to take the field;

The marching band refused to yield.

Do you recall what was revealed

The day the music died?

We started singing,

"bye-bye, miss american pie."

Drove my chevy to the levee,

But the levee was dry.

Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye

And singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.

"this’ll be the day that I die."

Oh, and there we were all in one place,

A generation lost in space

With no time left to start again.

So come on: jack be nimble, jack be quick!

Jack flash sat on a candlestick

Cause fire is the devil’s only friend.

Oh, and as I watched him on the stage

My hands were clenched in fists of rage.

No angel born in hell

Could break that satan’s spell.

And as the flames climbed high into the night

To light the sacrificial rite,

I saw satan laughing with delight

The day the music died

He was singing,

"bye-bye, miss american pie."

Drove my chevy to the levee,

But the levee was dry.

Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye

And singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.

"this’ll be the day that I die."

I met a girl who sang the blues

And I asked her for some happy news,

But she just smiled and turned away.

I went down to the sacred store

Where I’d heard the music years before,

But the man there said the music wouldn’t play.

And in the streets: the children screamed,

The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed.

But not a word was spoken;

The church bells all were broken.

And the three men I admire most:

The father, son, and the holy ghost,

They caught the last train for the coast

The day the music died.

And they were singing,

"bye-bye, miss american pie."

Drove my chevy to the levee,

But the levee was dry.

And them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye

Singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die.

"this’ll be the day that I die."

They were singing,

"bye-bye, miss american pie."

Drove my chevy to the levee,

But the levee was dry.

Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye

Singin’, "this’ll be the day that I die."

Bruce Springsteen - BLINDED BY THE LIGHT

Madman drummers bummers and Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat

In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps his way into his hat

With a boulder on my shoulder, feelin' kinda older, I tripped the merry-go-round

With this very unpleasing sneezing and wheezing, the calliope crashed to the ground

Some all-hot half-shot was headin' for the hot spot, snappin' his fingers, clappin' his hands

And some fleshpot mascot was tied into a lover's knot with a whatnot in her hand

And now young Scott with a slingshot finally found a tender spot and throws his lover in the sand

And some bloodshot forget-me-not whispers, "Daddy's within earshot, save the buckshot, turn up the band"

And she was blinded by the light

Cut loose like a deuce, another runner in the night

Blinded by the light

She got down but she never got tight, but she'll make it alright

Some brimstone baritone anti-cyclone rolling stone preacher from the East

He says, "Dethrone the dictaphone, hit it in its funny bone, that's where they expect it least"

And some new-mown chaperone was standin' in the corner all alone, watchin' the young girls dance

And some fresh-sown moonstone was messin' with his frozen zone to remind him of the feeling of romance

Yeah, he was blinded by the light

Cut loose like a deuce, another runner in the night

Blinded by the light

He got down but he never got tight, but he's gonna make it tonight

Some silicone sister with her manager's mister told me I got what it takes

She said, "I'll turn you on, sonny, to something strong if you play that song with the funky break"

And Go-Cart Mozart was checkin' out the weather chart to see if it was safe to go outside

And little Early-Pearly came by in her curly-wurly and asked me if I needed a ride

Oh, some hazard from Harvard was skunked on beer, playin' backyard bombardier

Yes, and Scotland Yard was trying hard, they sent some dude with a calling card, he said, "Do what you like, but don't do it here"

Well, I jumped up, turned around, spit in the air, fell on the ground and asked him which was the way back home

He said, "Take a right at the light, keep goin' straight until night, and then, boy, you're on your own"

And now in Zanzibar, a shootin' star was ridin' in a side car, hummin' a lunar tune

Yes, and the avatar said, "Blow the bar but first remove the cookie jar, we're gonna teach those boys to laugh too soon"

And some kidnapped handicap was complainin' that he caught the clap from some mousetrap he bought last night

Well, I unsnapped his skull cap and between his ears I saw a gap but figured he'd be all right

He was just blinded by the light

Cut loose like a deuce, another runner in the night

Blinded by the light

Mama always told me not to look into the sights of the sun

Oh, but Mama, that's where the fun is

I was blinded

I was blinded

I was blinded

Richard Berry - Louie, Louie

Oh, Louie Louie, oh no

Get her way down low

Oh, Louie Louie, oh baby

Get her down low

A fine little girl a-waiting for me

She's just a girl across the way

We'll take her and park all alone

She's never a girl I lay at home

At night at ten I lay her again

**** you girl, oh all the way

Oh my bed and I lay her there

I meet a rose in her hair

Okay, let's give it to them right now!

She's got a rag on I'll move above

It won't be long she'll slip it off

I'll take her in my arms again

I'll tell her I'll never leave again

Get that broad out of here!

Band - The Weight

I pulled into Nazareth, was feelin' about half past dead;

I just need some place where I can lay my head.

"Hey, mister, can you tell me where a man might find a bed?"

He just grinned and shook my hand, and "No!", was all he said.

(Chorus:)

Take a load off Fanny, take a load for free;

Take a load off Fanny, And (and) (and) you can put the load right on me.

I picked up my bag, I went lookin' for a place to hide;

When I saw Carmen and the Devil walkin' side by side.

I said, "Hey, Carmen, come on, let's go downtown."

She said, "I gotta go, but m'friend can stick around."

(Chorus)

Go down, Miss Moses, there's nothin' you can say

It's just ol' Luke, and Luke's waitin' on the Judgement Day.

"Well, Luke, my friend, what about young Anna Lee?"

He said, "Do me a favor, son, woncha stay an' keep Anna Lee company?"

(Chorus)

Crazy Chester followed me, and he caught me in the fog.

He said, "I will fix your rack, if you'll take Jack, my dog."

I said, "Wait a minute, Chester, you know I'm a peaceful man."

He said, "That's okay, boy, won't you feed him when you can."

(Chorus)

Catch a cannon ball now, t'take me down the line

My bag is sinkin' low and I do believe it's time.

To get back to Miss Fanny, you know she's the only one.

Who sent me here with her regards for everyone.

The Mamas %26amp; the Papas - Creeque Alley

John and Mitchy were gettin' kind of itchy

Just to leave the folk music behind;

Zal and Denny workin' for a penny

Tryin' to get a fish on the line.

In a coffee house Sebastian sat,

And after every number they'd pass the hat.

McGuinn and McGuire just a-gettin' higher in L.A.,

You know where that's at.

And no one's gettin' fat except Mama Cass.

Zally said, "Denny, you know there aren't many

Who can sing a song the way that you do; let's go south."

Denny said, "Zally, golly, don't you think that I wish

I could play guitar like you."

Zal, Denny, and Sebastian sat (at the Night Owl)

And after every number they'd pass the hat.

McGuinn and McGuire still a-gettin higher in L.A.,

You know where that's at.

And no one's gettin' fat except Mama Cass.

When Cass was a sophomore, planned to go to Swathmore

But she changed her mind one day.

Standin' on the turnpike, thumb out to hitchhike,

"Take me to New York right away."

When Denny met Cass he gave her love bumps;

Called John and Zal and that was the Mugwumps.

McGuinn and McGuire couldn't get no higher

But that's what they were aimin' at.

And no one's gettin' fat except Mama Cass.

Mugwumps, high jumps, low slumps, big bumps---

Don't you work as hard as you play.

Make up, break up, everything is shake up;

Guess it had to be that way.

Sebastian and Zal formed the æ…¡poonful;

Michelle, John, and Denny gettin' very tuneful.

McGuinn and McGuire just a-catchin' fire in L.A.,

You know where that's at.

And everybody's gettin' fat except Mama Cass.

Broke, busted, disgusted, agents can't be trusted,

And Mitchy wants to go to the sea.

Cass can't make it; she says we'll have to fake it---

We knew she'd come eventually.

Greasin' on American Express cards;

Tents low rent, but keeping out the heat's hard.

Duffy's good vibrations and our imaginations

Can't go on indefinitely.

And California dreamin' is becomin' a reality...

Reply:The only one that I know is American Pie : The entire song is a tribute to Buddy Holly and a commentary on how rock and roll changed in the years since his death

A GOOD SONG FOR A GIRL (me) TO SING FOR A TALENT SHOW..with my friend playing her acoustic in the background??

A GOOD SONG FOR A GIRL (me) TO SING FOR A TALENT SHOW..with my friend playing her acoustic in the background??
What about that song: "More than words"

or "Easy" (like sunday morning)
Reply:Well, no music will be good for you to sing to acoustic. The music you wanna sing is whack! No ones ever heard of Nellie Mckay or ditty bops. Well, at least not anyone i know.

Good luck on finding a good song.

Nother question about the manic episode?

did anybody feel they where trap in the music world and thought they figured all the songs and meanings of the songs out and every line in a song related to you. if that happened like it did to me please explain.

Nother question about the manic episode?
it puzzles people at first

to see how little the manic depressive actually does

and yet gets things done

the manic depressive know that is how things work

after all

the manic depressive is capable of doing nothing at all

yet everything gets done

when you the manic depressive gets too busy

the time has come to return to selfless silence

selflessness gives you center

center creates order

when there is order, there is little to do

(another question about the manic episode? oftentimes the manic episode will move into a psychotic break)

DOING LITTLE

when you get too busy, the time has come to return to selfless silence
Reply:I believe they call that a psychotic break. I've had way too many myself. Also 2 of my 3 adult children are bipolar, and I use to work in a mental health facility, (state hospital). I have experienced similar thinking to what you are describing -inside and out, and inside-out. The way you describe your feelings is similar to all of us when we go into the psychotic realm of mania. However, if we are aware and we (in a more balanced state of mind), become sensitive to the chemical phenomenon of mania, or depression we CAN PREPARE FOR THE NEXT TIME. That is how you begin to HELP YOURSELF. If medication controls your highs and/or lows, it is in your own best interest to NEVER RUN OUT, NEVER take ANYTHING that interferes with the action of any of your Rxs -including food and drink. Did you know, every time you interrupt your pharmaceutical regimen your treatment (Tx) time will increase 1 to 5 years FOR EVERY TIME YOU MESS UP YOUR MEDICINE. I have been getting medication OFF AND ON since I was 16, that's like 32 years ago! I was in my mid 30s before I finally realized if I followed the rules of the medicine I could be in a much more comfortable place in my mind.

Plan ahead, in my early 30s I got tired of getting shut off notices for not paying my bills so I hired the local public administrator to manage my money-I can't even sign my own checks- and I pay about $30 a month. He's been my conservator for around 15 years now. It's been that long since I've gotten any kind of shut off notice. It's amazing how much money you can spend when during a manic attack. My racing thoughts, and holy **** ideas appear to have found a quiet place to live after my second or third attempt with a risperdol regimen of 2mg twice a day for 2 years. It takes a while to get that high of a dose so I was probably on it 2 and a half years or so. After my thinking cleared up and the chatter in my head cleared up for the 2 years I slowly weaned my way off. That was about 4 years ago and now the chatter only starts up when I am under nearly unbearable stress or I have neglected taking care of my self. We may each have similar illness or disorder or malfunction, but every single one of us experiences it differently from EVERY one else, what is one persons answer is another persons madness. Be curious, be determined to do what it takes to balance because in bipolar THAT is our task, or challenge, to balance our stress levels, our physical health, our mental health, our intellectual health, social health and our spiritual health. Balance is the answer and focus and tenacity are the keys.

Song Meaning?????

What does the song "With You" by Chris Brown....I hear many different meanings, and a lot of them, does not makes sense.....so if you know, your answer will be appreciated

Song Meaning?????
hes talking about this girl that hes in love with and with her he doesnt need anything or anybody else because shes his love, his all, and hes really into her and everytime they touch pretty much it makes him fall in love all over again. it also says that hes gonna try and be her everything. and without her he would die. and then he goes on to say that he knows hes not the only one that feels this way about a girl and theres people all over the world tonight that feel that way about their special someone and who feel that they gotta see their boo just like him.
Reply:Hes pretty much sayin he loves her and comparing his love to the love of different people in the world i.e " and theres hearts all over the world tonight who feel how i feel when im with you"

Hes also saying how every time they are together he loves her more and more i.e " with every kiss and every hug you make me fall in love

And of course hes telling her how much he loves her and what he loves about her and what he wants to do for her i,e "you that i will try to be your everything." and "Baby you're the best part of my day" " and i need you boo gotta see you boo"

If you're thinkin there is something sexual about it, theres not

Just another love song
Reply:It just means that theres no one else that could..take her place...

Song Lyric Question - Christmas Song?

I remember hearing this song several years ago but never knew its title or origin. I think the very beginning is:

Johnny get your little drum, Peter bring your flute and come/

Celebrate this day, this joyous holiday.

It doesn't sound like a modern song/melody, rather it feels more traditional/folk-ish. Don't think Ave Maria or actual folk music, those are the incorrect meanings of my adjective choices.

Thanks ahead of time!

Song Lyric Question - Christmas Song?
"Pat-A-Pan" is based on a 17th century French carol composed by Bernard de la Monnoye.

Willie, get your little drum

Robin, bring your flute and come

Aren’t they fun to play upon?

Tu-re-lu-re-lu, pat-a-pat-a-pan

When you play your fife and drum

How can anyone be glum?

When the men of olden days

Gave the King of Kings their praise

They had pipes to play upon

Tu-re-lu-re-lu, pat-a-pat-a-pan

And also the drums they’d play

Full of joy, on Christmas Day.

God and man today become

Closely joined as flute and drum

Let the joyous tune play on

Tu-re-lu-re-lu, pat-a-pat-a-pan

As the instruments you play

We will sing, this Christmas Day.

Does "White Rabbit" has a special meaning in Song by "Jefferson Airplane" ?

Obviously the song is about Psychedelic Drugs and it many points it has used terms from Alice in Wonderland but does it has other meanings?

Does "White Rabbit" has a special meaning in Song by "Jefferson Airplane" ?
I always thought the "White Rabbit" was the answers everyone is looking for. Searching for understanding of the unknown and unexplained. It's the wanderer looking for his place in the world and answers to questions yet to be asked. Chasing that which cannot be caught or found. Elusiveness of the misunderstood. Wish I could put this into better words.

Meaning of the song Alegria?

Now I know that the song Alegria in written in 3 languages, Italian (1st stanza), English (2nd stanza), Spanish (3rd stanza)... I want to know if the meanings in Italian and Spanish are exactly the same as the English... If not, what does the Italian part and the Spanish part mean?

Meaning of the song Alegria?
hi;I'm the one who gave you the lyric. since I speak the 3 languages, I can tell you that the meaning is the same, there are just a couple of words that means something a little bit different, but I thnk it has been done just to keep the rhythm.

bye
Reply:It´s not exactly the same. I mean, not literally the same. But as an spanish speaker, and as far as I understand english and italian, I think the poetic meaning is the same.

Spanish and italian stanzas use comparatives clauses (beginning in "come" for italian, and in "como" for spanish). Correspondence between these stanzas is almost literal, with some minor differences (italian "pazzo gridar" = a crazy or foolish screaming; confronted to spanish "un payaso que grita" = a clown who screams).

Correspondence with english is not literal, but you can find the same ideas. I think the major difference is that english stanza use the first person (I, me): It is joy as "I" feel it. In Italian and spanish versions, this feeling of joy is not limited to one person.

Hey i would like to know what you think the meanings some of the death not opening and closing songs are about

The fallacy of ultimate power over ultimate power.

(kind of corny imo...)

Out of all the songs you've heard, which song's lyrics are the most meaningful to you? And Why?

A lot of the Linkin Park songs have a lot of deep meanings. Such as Hands Held High, and somwhere I belong.

Three Days Grace's songs are the type of songs that only a person that had gone throught that type of pain could write them. And many people that listen to "emo" bands or w/e those people label their music as. Those people don;t listen to the lyrics therefore don'd understand the message. And when they don't understand the message there's no conversation for those songs except on weather they like them or not.

I just wanna see who out there is really listening to the lyrics and how they speak out intsead of just hearing the music. Those people hear,...but they don't listen. I want to see who is listening.

Out of all the songs you've heard, which song's lyrics are the most meaningful to you? And Why?
Your guardian angel

it actually has meaning and the 2:30 minute silence at the end is actually him crying. it tells a story. about him. (the lead singer)

listen to it.
Reply:Most of the lyrics that have the most meaning to me

are the ones that take imagination to relate to.

The song Gingerbread Coffin by Rasputina

has always made me feel better when I'm down.

The song is a story about a woman

who died and I assume

others are trying to bring her back from the dead

by doing some sort of ritual.

The song means much to me because the lead singer

says over and over again "She'll rise."

which I relate to: when I'm feeling my worst

I'll rise from my death (depression) and I'll live again.

Not to mention that my name means "Will rise again."

There are many other songs that have meaning to me for strange reasons.

Like Dresden Dolls' Dirty Business.

I heard it right after I apologized to my church's youth group leader

(I picked a fight with him ... verbal fight),

I apologized to him by saying that it wasn't fair for him,

because I was going through a lot of things lately

and he had no idea what they were.

To which he said something along the lines of:

"Oh, no. We know."

...

The lyrics fuel my anger towards him

because it described "the poster girl"

a shady character who I feel closer associated with than what

my youth group apparently thinks I am.

it mentions "To all the ones who thought

they knew me best [...]"

Which makes me feel like they thought they knew me best

but on the contrary, I'm the poster girl.

I recommend Rasputina if you have an over active imagination

and like hearing songs that are stories, like "Hunter's Kiss"

I recommend Emilie Autumn especially!

All of her songs are extremely poetic and meaningful.

The lyrics to "306" are deep and wonderful and

"God Help me" is a song that I has deep meaning for me.

They're both wonderful artists.
Reply:emotion by destinys child is pretty good!
Reply:i really like the song falling in the black by skillet. it shows a lot emotion in it.

but the band called red i think shows the most meaningful songs to me. theres jsut something unique on the way it sounds and the lyrics. it just screams meaningful to me lol xD

i see dead lollis =D
Reply:I have many favourite songs, and you're right, I mostly listen to the songs without understanding the meaning just because they sound awesome. These songs are japanese/korean songs, being an anime fan and all.

I also listen to many English songs but most of them I just listen to without understanding most of the song because the words are hard to form in my mind (ex. they speak too fast). So, the only songs I've listen to while knowing the lyrics are some old or semi-old or semi-new songs, which are easier to understand.

Such as, "Leavin' in a jet plane", "I don't want to miss a thing", "How to save a life", "I started a joke", "Puff the magic dragon", "Time of your life", "I knew I loved you", "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", "When Children Cry", and many more.

Most meaningful? I guess the song "When Children Cry" is the most meaningful in the list I've given above. It's basically about how the future of the children is what we make for them.

The symbles in The Streetcar named desire?

Is the Blue Piano a song?

What does it symbles?

Are there any special meanings when it occurs?

The symbles in The Streetcar named desire?
Symbols

Symbols are objects, characters, figures, or colors used to represent abstract ideas or concepts.

Shadows and Cries -

As Blanche and Stanley begin to quarrel in Scene Ten, various oddly shaped shadows begin to appear on the wall behind her. Discordant noises and jungle cries also occur as Blanche begins to descend into madness. All of these effects combine to dramatize Blanche’s final breakdown and departure from reality in the face of Stanley’s physical threat. When she loses her sanity in her final struggle against Stanley, Blanche retreats entirely into her own world. Whereas she originally colors her perception of reality according to her wishes, at this point in the play she ignores reality altogether.

The Varsouviana Polka -

The Varsouviana is the polka tune to which Blanche and her young husband, Allen Grey, were dancing when she last saw him alive. Earlier that day, she had walked in on him in bed with an older male friend. The three of them then went out dancing together, pretending that nothing had happened. In the middle of the Varsouviana, Blanche turned to Allen and told him that he “disgusted” her. He ran away and shot himself in the head.

The polka music plays at various points in A Streetcar Named Desire, when Blanche is feeling remorse for Allen’s death. The first time we hear it is in Scene One, when Stanley meets Blanche and asks her about her husband. Its second appearance occurs when Blanche tells Mitch the story of Allen Grey. From this point on, the polka plays increasingly often, and it always drives Blanche to distraction. She tells Mitch that it ends only after she hears the sound of a gunshot in her head.

The polka and the moment it evokes represent Blanche’s loss of innocence. The suicide of the young husband Blanche loved dearly was the event that triggered her mental decline. Since then, Blanche hears the Varsouviana whenever she panics and loses her grip on reality.

“It’s Only a Paper Moon” -

In Scene Seven, Blanche sings this popular ballad while she bathes. The song’s lyrics describe the way love turns the world into a “phony” fantasy. The speaker in the song says that if both lovers believe in their imagined reality, then it’s no longer “make-believe.” These lyrics sum up Blanche’s approach to life. She believes that her fibbing is only her means of enjoying a better way of life and is therefore essentially harmless.

As Blanche sits in the tub singing “It’s Only a Paper Moon,” Stanley tells Stella the details of Blanche’s sexually corrupt past. Williams ironically juxtaposes Blanche’s fantastical understanding of herself with Stanley’s description of Blanche’s real nature. In reality, Blanche is a sham who feigns propriety and sexual modesty. Once Mitch learns the truth about Blanche, he can no longer believe in Blanche’s tricks and lies.

Meat -

In Scene One, Stanley throws a package of meat at his adoring Stella for her to catch. The action sends Eunice and the ***** woman into peals of laughter. Presumably, they’ve picked up on the sexual innuendo behind Stanley’s gesture. In hurling the meat at Stella, Stanley states the sexual proprietorship he holds over her. Stella’s delight in catching Stanley’s meat signifies her sexual infatuation with him.

Have you ever changed your thoughts about a song completely (see details) after...?

after you came to know the true meanings of the lyrics?

I mean people who've been here before the internet, and then you go to a songmeanings site, and suddenly come to know that that song is nothing what you thought to be! What's your reaction? has this happened to you before?

Other folks can answer too, no problem. That was just an example.

Have you ever changed your thoughts about a song completely (see details) after...?
Yeah.

Lyrics have a place on my part. I mean, lyrics tell a lot about the band...and if you have something for the band you idolize, you care about how they are when it comes to beliefs, ideas they hold, the kind of people they are. Well, me, anyway.

Lyrics are pretty much the thoughts and feelings of the one who wrote it, just turned into song, rather than poetry.

So I could totally dig the beat, the way the singer sings and everything, but if the lyrics strike an emotional chord the wrong way for me, I'm through with the song...I mean, why bother listening to someone singing words that hurt? That's self sabotage right there.

My example would be Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" song. Meh...I won't even bother to go into detail of why. I'm sure you can figure it out.
Reply:yeah deffenatly, after i listend to the lyrics from

These colours dont run- iron maiden (they are about soldiors going to war,

they made me think differently towards the song
Reply:no. i actually try not to look up other people's opinions on songs that i listen to. i like to figure it out myself.
Reply:all the time especially with rock , usually i like a song just because the tones and he lyrics sound great then when i really understand the lyrics i like it even more. understanding lyric meanings have never made me like a song less
Reply:See, that's why you don't look up the true meanings.

Songs are supposed to have a different meaning to each person, and to know what the band intended to mean just ruins the whole illusion.

I love music and I love the different meanings people can get from the same song.

I guess you could call me a music guru of some sort! =]]
Reply:No, not really. I would be listening to the song for the first ever time, and i pick up the inner-meaning quickly. People only see the top layer, never look down into it. But i dont go on sites to look up the words, i pick the words up after one listen.
Reply:no, it never happened to me, i always try to get from the lyrics something that has a meaning to me so i don't really care if the writer did it thinking of another thing i will stay with my thought about the lyrics which are always good. besides that's whats great about art in general, each person can decide what to understand about any piece of art
Reply:This doesn't really happen to me largely because I focus on the guitar parts more than the lyrics.
Reply:When I first listened to one of my favorite songs, I thought it was a love song about someone, but apparently its about war.

Its fun to figure out song meaning by myself and it doesnt really ruin a song for me when i learn its about somthing different.
Reply:NO, God Bless youTC/;)

What does the title Catcher In the Rye mean?

My teacher told me he is looking for 3 meanings

1 is that his brother that died was a baseball catcher (thats the catcher part)

2 "In the Rye" is a song that a little kid was singing i think when he was at the park or something so what's the 3rd one?

What does the title Catcher In the Rye mean?
In basic terms - Holden Caulfield was trying to save children from losing the innocence by catching them in the rye field before they fell over and lost it.
Reply:Catcher in the Rye was someone who would catch people before they fell off of the nearby cliff.
Reply:His brother Allie wasn't a catcher; he had a baseball glove with poetry written all over it in green ink. The song "When a Body Meet a Body Comin' Through the Rye" has to do with sexual encounters. Holden does not fare well when it appears innocence is in danger. The final meaning of "the catcher in the rye" originates from a dream Holden had in which he is standing on a cliff catching children who are playing in a field of rye. His job is to catch them and to throw them back into the field so that they can be safe and can continue to play. He is attempting to keep them safe, metaphorically maintaining their innocence.
Reply:That he was catching the kids in the rye field so they didn't go over the cliff - or something.
Reply:When Holden is asked by his sister, Phoebe, about what he wants to be when he grows up, he says he wants to be a "catcher in the rye" who waits at the bottom of a cliff for children who fall off of it while playing, and keeps them from getting hurt. The cliff represents childhood, and children falling off of it symbolizes them growing up and maturing, losing their innocence. Holden, at the bottom, sees himself as already having lost this innocence and being part of the adult world he despises. Even so, he wishes to save younger children from a similar fate (i.e. being so angry that Allie died because death is an adult experience, being outraged at "****" being on the wall of Phoebe's school because it was too mature of a word for kids).
Reply:He was bothered by the song "Comin' Through the Rye" because he imagined children playing in a rye field at the edge of a cliff that they couldn't see because the rye was so tall, and he decided that he wanted to be the "catcher in the rye," to stand at the edge and catch any child in danger of falling over.

Tell me the meanings of "Sunrise, Sunset."?

"Sunrise, Sunset" sung in "Fiddler on the Roof" is my favorite song. What does the part of its lyrics "Is there a canopy in store for me?" mean? I know what a canopy is. I want to know what this does part exactoly imply? (I am a Japanese.)

Tell me the meanings of "Sunrise, Sunset."?
= I think he is wondering about something good in the future coming. I will ask around and check with others for you. Yes I was right he is speaking of marriage. The canopy is part of the Jewish wedding ceremony. The couple stands under one and gets married. It is part of their tradition. Happy Holidays
Reply:The person was asking, "Will I one day be married?"
Reply:The context of the song is "laden with happiness and tears".

"Is there a canopy in store for me?" suggests at once hopefulness for a happy marriage and the possibilty of an unhappy match made without love or emotional attachment.
Reply:Jews marry under canopies.

Does it make sense to find meanings or enlightenment from pop music?

I always try to find some meaning, enlightenment, inspiration or comfort from the very few songs I like, such as Stop Crying Your Heart Out, Boulevard of Broken Dreams and Good Charlotte's March on. Does it make sense? Do the singers who write these songs really think or do(the disposition) in the same way they say in their works? Do they really, in their daily lives, have the same emotions that they try to express in their songs?

Does it make sense to find meanings or enlightenment from pop music?
Noel Gallagher has said a lot of his songs are gibberish. And they are!! 'The sinks is full of fishes/She's got dirty dishes on her brain.' Case closed. Lol sorry.

I think song lyrics are meant to evoke a feeling in you rather than directly say something. Wonderwall is like Noel trying to say things he can't actually put into words. Maybe as a laddish kind of guy, he doesn't like to say things in direct words. But with this song, he can convey how he feels without saying it in as many words. I prefer songs that promote emotions and feelings in you, rather than hit you over the head with a story or an idea. Songs like that rarely occupy a place in people's hearts.

Some songs can have a theme, story or agenda to them. Isn't American Pie about the day Elvis died or something? Golden Brown by the Stranglers is about heroin. Ziggy Stardust is about Jimi Hendrix to some degree.

So there are some exceptions, but 99.9% of songs are meaningless. Across The Universe by The Beatles has a fantastic lyric, but does anyone actually think it means something. It doesn't matter, it means something to whoever's listening to it at the time.

A lot of bands write open-ended lyrics so as to let the listener interpret them their own ways. The 80s alt rock band Spacemen 3 wrote lyrics so blunt and steeped in songwriting shorthand deliberately, both to allow the listener to associate the song with whatever it meant to them when they listened to it, and to not distract from the music itself. Listen to it-it works wonders.

The band Sigur Ros made up syllables for their earlier albums, rather than using actual words in their songs. In the CD Booklet the left empty pages at the back for the listener to write down their own lyrics for the songs, or whatever they thought the singer was saying.

You can look for meaning in pop lyrics, but don't expect to find an answer everytime. If the song speaks directly to you, affects you in some way, triggers a memory or means something to you that's all that matters. As REM's Michael Stipe, a great lyricist, once said "They're song lyrics, not poetry".
Reply:Yes, I now think everyone should gimme more, gimme more, gimme gimme gimme more and I now have the inclination to lay here, just lay here, and just forget the world.

Pop music doesnt have deep lyrics.

check out nine inch nails "right where it belongs" instead.

the best lyrics i have ever heard in my life.
Reply:Personally I prefer to enjoy a good song rather than analyse it.However I do believe that most writers give a piece of themselves in their work. Not necessarily an auto biography but certain events in their lives can sometimes inspire a great song.
Reply:The songs you listed can be very meaningful. I think it's close to impossible for someone to write a song full of certain emotions if they themselves posses none of those emotions.
Reply:well it seems green day does at least. i mean they bash bush in music and in life. thank god for green day
Reply:People have always sought meaning from art. And I think meaning is often there. That's why it's so potent in our lives.

What is the meaning behind, " Hotel California"?

I've heard the song a million times, and I know most of the lyrics, but what does the song mean? What are the symbolic meanings in the song? To me, it sounds like a strange dream.

What is the meaning behind, " Hotel California"?
Check out snopes. com and wikipedia. The song is not Satanic or about Satan worshippers or any such thing. "Hotel California" is metaphorical for the hedonistic lifestyle that people tend to get swept up in in California, especially musicians and celebrities, of drugs, women and unbelievable riches which quickly cause most people to fall into a downward spiral and feel like they can't get out. Hence the line "You can check out anytime you like but you can never leave." The entire "Hotel California" album is a warning about the "loss of innocence" that can occur with excess and fame.
Reply:The Hotel California is Hell, I think. What do you think? The song says you can never leave, right. What else could that mean?
Reply:I think the song is about the seduction of modern society, especially a place like California. The weather is beautiful, the people are attractive, there's lots of great food and wine. When you get there, you are so seduced by the surroundings and people that you begin to think it's like that everywhere. Except that it's like that only in California and the rest of the world is another place entirely.

It's a pretty good song, actually. Insightful.
Reply:it means hell. duh
Reply:supposely it was about hell.
Reply:It is a strange trip written by two guys who smoked alot of Pot!!!!
Reply:That's what I always thought too, a strange dream. It has been said it has something to do with devil worship.........who knows?
Reply:It is based on the members' experience at The Church Of Satan in San Francisco. The band were members and affiliated back then.

The members stayed at the Church Of Satan (lead by Anton LaVey) in those days and describe some of the things they experienced. The church is still headquartered there to this day/

If you are in San Fran you can visit the headquarters painted black near the foot of the Golden Gate bridge... http://www.churchofsatan.com/home.html
Reply:I've heard its about using Heroin, but I don't know if that is a fact.
Reply:It's about a hotel in California

What is the red hot chilli peppers song about?

What is the song "Under the Bridge" about specifically (its by the RHCP)? Also what is the hidden meanings in Give it Away? This is for my music class......thanks!

What is the red hot chilli peppers song about?
Under The Bridge is an introspective reflection on Anthony Kiedis' drug addiction.

The title comes from the song lyric, Under the bridge downtown/Is where I drew some blood, reportedly referring to an experience in which Kiedis used drugs under a bridge with a member of a Mexican gang, although Kiedis himself refuses to reveal the exact location.

The song almost did not make the album, because the lyrics and nature of the song made Kiedis reluctant to show it to producer Rick Rubin and also to record it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Under_the_B...

The interpretations of the lyrics for Give It Away have been widely different. The line What I've got you've got to get it put it in you is believed by some to be a reference to taking drugs, while lines such as Come and drink it up from my fertility could be construed as sexual metaphors.

You can read about the other interpretations here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Give_it_Awa...
Reply:Under the Bridge is about Anthony's battle with heroin...
Reply:I don't remember what Under the bridge was about but give it away is about sex.
Reply:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Under_The_B...
Reply:All of their songs are about the same old tired subject- California. And that song is also about Anthony Keidis feeling down and out in the city of angels- Los Angeles. I think it was about him feeling strung out and contemplating suicide.
Reply:Under the Bridge: Originally a poem Anthony wrote which Rick Rubin stumbled upon when he was looking them over one day. Anthony was kind of hesitant of showing it to the other members but he sang it and instead of laughing and making fun of it Flea and John went to their instruments and started playing. When they go to the "Under the bridge downtown" part they had nothing. So John called his mom up and she brought her Church choir to sing that part.

Give it Away: agreethe song is about love. its a great song, especialy when people are like "oh that song is so dirty" when its not at all! anthony said he was inspired when he was with his girlfriend, and she was wearing her favorite leather jacket and it was cold outside, and she gave it to him, and he couldn't believe it, but she said no please take it ill be happier if you takeit. hence "give it away" you know "unrepressed by material excess" its fantastic! just about love and giving and of embracing all, and just love of everything, sexual love, love of family, love of friends love of a lover

Reply:I think if you're wanting to find a song full of deep meaning for your fiance you shouldn't be getting ideas from people who don't know you. May I suggest you browseing yourself. Maybe take some artists who specialize or are known for love songs or take romantic compilations and listen to them yourself, see which ones really touch your heart or make you think of your fiance. If you do this I think it will be special for both of you. Good luck!
Reply:English. PLZ!!!

MiMs This is why I'm hot, meanings of lyrics?

Okay so I was wondering if you could provide plain-English meanings to the following lines out of the song "This Is Why I'm Hot" by MiMs...

-"If you need a bird, I can get it chopped"

-"playa you come between, you better focus on the beam"

-"I gave 'em black train"

-"similar to lil weeze coz i got the fire"

thanks!

MiMs This is why I'm hot, meanings of lyrics?
i think it is because he is hot because he is fly and you aint because your not. that is why he is hot lol idk
Reply:he's got the fire like the fireman lil wayne
Reply:I think a bird is something materialistic, like something that thay can buy because he says "i'm closing down stores, just so I can shop, if u need a bird I can get it chopped, tell me what u need, u know i get em by the flock".................... The 2nd verse i'm not to sure but it has something 2 do with drugs................ 3rd verse i think he used to work with another artist before and he used his song cuz he says "i gave em black train and i did u wrong, now everytime they see me they tell me thats they song" ....................... 4th verse he's comparing himself to Lil Wayne and his song "Fireman"
Reply:k, some are not easy cause they are taken out of context.

but heres my try:

-need a custom pimped out fly *** flashy car, with ridiculous spinner rims for exorbitant amounts of cash? I know a place that will do that, and I got pull there cause I'm so bad ***.

-ehhh..out of context. lazer beam from his bad *** ak47 perhaps?

-mmm...sexual act? out of context, not enough clues.

-hes saying he's like little wayne from the hot boys (group from new orleans who's major commercial success of my lietime was juveniles 400 degrees album released in 1997 i think). "fire", aka "fiya" is the way to say decent weed. in thier world there is the **** We All Get (ShWAG) or the fire. the killer purple, the dank, the kind, whatever.

but yeah basically the major theme of this song is look at me look at me im so insecure i have to sing a song about how cool i am cause people will not notice other wise. gonna rap about money and jewelry and fast cars since i have no creativity and it sells and thats all im here for.

god hip hop has gone downhill.

*looks for Big L cd*
Reply:IDK...But that song is hot

In 'the chicken song' by spitting image. who beheaded an eskimo?

in the chicken song there is a line " behead an eskimo" i have figured out the rest of the lyrics and their meanings. e.g. hulk hogan called himself keith to get into a restaurant so that he could get away from the public. (this didnt work though 'cos someone recognised him).

thanks if you can help. i highly recommend you listen to the song.

In 'the chicken song' by spitting image. who beheaded an eskimo?
you do but first you have to fly the jumbo jet!
Reply:I didn't realise the song had meanings. I thought it was all just silly phrases. I'll have to listen to it again.
Reply:i thought "pretend your name is keith" was a reference to the singer in black lace "with their girly curly hair" who sang "agadoo" and other such nonsense?

"behead an eskimo" rhymed with "learn to speak arapahoe"

i wrote down these lyrics as i found them very amusing 20 years ago.......
Reply:Its the time of year

Now that Spring is in the air

When those two wet gits with their girly curly hair

Make another song for moronic holidays

That nauseate-ate-ate

In a million different ways

From the shores of Spain

To the coast of Southern France

No matter where you hide

You just can't escape this dance

Hold a chicken in the air

Stick a deckchair up your nose

Buy a jumbo jet

And then bury all your clothes

Paint your left knee green

Then extract your wisdom teeth

Form a string quartet

And pretend your name is Keith

Skin yourself alive

Learn to speak Arapahoe

Climb inside a dog

And behead an eskimo

Eat a Renault Four with salami in your ears

Casserole your gran

Disembowel yourself with spears

The disco is vibrating

The sound is loud and grating

Its truly nauseating

Let's do the dance again

Hold a chicken in the air

Stick a deckchair up your nose

Yes you'll hear this song in the holiday discos

And there's no escape in the clubs or in the bars

You would hear this song if you holidayed in Mars

Skin yourself alive

Learn to speak Arapahoe

Climb inside a dog

And behead an eskimo

Now you've heard it once

Your brain will spring a leak

And though you hate this song

You'll be humming it for weeks

Hold a chicken in the air

Stick a deckchair up your nose

Buy a jumbo jet

And then bury all your clothes

La la la la la
